We mount the engines that have won the "Dakar"
Our flagship 640 Maine is equipped
with twin turbo diesel FPT Industrial Cursor C13.
The same engines have been used in the most difficult race of the
world, the Dakar.
These diesel units have equipped four Iveco Trakker
Evolution 2, three of them driven by famous pilots,
as Miki Biasion, twice champion of the world with
Lancia Delta Integrale, Gerard de Rooy, truck
tuner and test driver, and Hans Stacey, winner of the 2007 Dakar
edition.
In the Dakar, the motors have
been tested in the hardest trials where the extreme power and
reliability are the fundamental keys for the success.
The Cursor C13 turbo diesel has a capacity of 12,900 cc, 6
cylinders, 24 valves and Bosch electronic fuel injection; they are
rated at 900 hp at 2200 rpm and for a maximum
torque of 3600 Nm at 1200 rpm. Recently, two Iveco Trakker 4x4
won the Rally of Morocco with C13
engines (first and second place in the Trucks category).
These engines, powerful and reliable, are ideal for marine
applications.
FPT Industrial produces the best products of the
market by merging the experiences and synergies developed in
various areas of application also through the races, on the land as
well on the sea.
The Dakar Rally started on the 1st of January 2012 from Mar del
Plata - Argentina, and finished in Lima - Peru, on the 15th of
January, after 8500 km of tremendous route, through the desert
dunes and the rocky mountain roads.
Stage #1: 3 Iveco
Trakker 4x4 driven by De Rooy, Biasion and
Stacey are in the first six places of the
"Truck" ranking. The dutchman De Rooy, who follows the leader only
26 seconds away, has said: "In the final part of the special I ran
into the dust raised by Nikolaev and Loprais. I actually was right
behind them before the final long straight, but I had to let them
go because I could not see a thing. I could have posted a far
better time, but I am very happy all the same".
Stage #2: Gerard
de Rooy first in the Truck ranking after the
second stage. The Dutch Iveco FPT driver has
crossed the finishing line first and now he leads the overall
ranking of the Truck category. Third place overall for
the other Iveco FPT driver Hans Stacey, 5' 49"
behind, and 8th place for Miki Biasion, 10' 20"
behind.
Stage #3:
Miki Biasion, the unforgettable World
Champion Rally with the Lancia Delta
Integrale, won the third stage of the
Dakar. The three Iveco Trakker 4x4 with FPT C13
engines are now at the second (De Rooy,
only 28" behind the first), the
third (Biasion) and the fourth (Stacey) position of the overall
standings.
Stage #4:
fantastic hat-trick winning for three Iveco
Trakker, which won the today's race leaving at least 10
minutes behind their rivals and now lead the overall
ranking in the following order: 1st Gerard De Rooy (NDL),
2nd Hans Stacey (NDL), 3rd Miki Biasion
(ITA).
Stage #5:
Gerard De Rooy wins again and the three drivers Iveco
consolidate their leadership in the overall standings.
Behind the experienced Dutch driver there is the countryman
Hans Stacey, 4 '21" away, while Miki Biasion is now only 4"
behind Stacey. De Rooy said: "The first dunes were very soft, but
with the torque of our trucks, that's not a
problem".
Stage #6:
the stage has been cancelled. Due to the
bad weather continuing over the Andes Mountain Range (rain and
snow), the Chilean authorities were forced to
close the border at the Paso de San Francisco pass,
situated at 4700 m. In order to guarantee the security of the
competitors and those following the rally, the organisers have
decided to organise a convoy for all vehicles
tomorrow.
Stage #7: the fourth victory for the
Iveco FPT truck driven by Gerard De Rooy who leave the
opponents behind in the standings. Stacey and Biasion have suffered
punctures at the tires, but while the Dutchman only slipped to
third place, the Italian driver wasted 6 hours and now he is
in 18th position in the overall standing.
Stage #8: today,
with the second place De Rooy remains at the head
of the overall ranking with 15 minutes of vantage on the main
rival, the Czech Loprais. Biasion finished in third
place, attempting a impossible recovery. Stacey is
always third, while two other Iveco FPT
overlook at the top of the standings: now the Spanish Vila is sixth
and the French Adua eleventh.
Stage #9: a
triple victory again! Iveco trucks and FPT
Industrial engines have conquered the three top
places in the race today. In the overall rankings, De Rooy
and Stacey are in the first and the second place respectively but
the whole Iveco FPT fleet is gaining
positions day by day thanks to the
reliability of the trucks and their engines: 4th Vila, 7th
Adua, 12th Biasion.
Stage
#10: the rally enters in the critical stages and
at the top of the trucks ranking there is always
the Dutchman driver Gerard De Rooy with his Iveco Trakker 4x4
with FPT C13 engine. Even today, four Iveco in the
first six places in the standings and three Iveco in the
first four places of the overall ranking.
Stage #11: 3 days
at the end of the rally and Gerard De Rooy still
heads the standings with 55 minutes ahead of Hans Stacey.
The domain of the team Iveco FPT is increasingly evident: also
today 3 Iveco FPT Trakker at the first four places
of the stage.
Stage #12: an
extraordinary show of force by Iveco FPT: 4 trucks to the
first 4 places of the race today. In the overall standings
De Rooy and Stacey have a good advantage over the
rivals. The French Adua gets on fifth position and Biasion
retrieves the eighth one.
Stage #13: De Rooy
is preparing to make the final parade with about
an hour of advantage on teammate Stacey and nearly two hours on the
third in the standings. The Italian driver Miki Biasion with an
incredible remount moved up to sixth. Now, only 29 km miss to
the triumph of Iveco and FPT.
Final Stage:
Gerard De Rooy has won the 2012 Edition of the
longest and the most difficult rally in the world. The success of
Iveco FPT team is completed by the second place of Hans
Stacey and the 6th place of Miki Biasion. All the Iveco
trucks were been equipped by the FPT
Industrial Cursor C13, the same engine mounted on the 640
Maine.
